Presentation to the Scottish Government on 7 November 2019
Professor Pete Smith, ClimateXChange Science Director
In the last year the International Panel On Climate Change (IPCC) has published report on limiting global temperature increase to 1.5C and a Special Report on Climate Change and Land. The Scottish Government declared a climate emergency in May this year, and based on advice from the Committee on Climate Change (CCC), set a target for net-zero emissions Scotland by 2045 reflected in the Climate Change Bill which recently passed through Parliament.
In this talk, ClimateXChange Science Director Professor Pete Smith, an author on both of the IPCC reports, provided a summary of the findings, and reflected on policy interventions (particularly in the land sectors) that could deliver on Scotland’s net-zero emissions ambition.
